London’s Alfies Antique Market – the perfect treat for jewellery lovers
The famous Alfies Antique market of Marylebone in central London, which boasts an impressive range of collectable jewellery items and antiques, has been attracting collectors, designers and celebrities for more than 30 years. It is located between the tube stations of Marylebone and Edgware Road and is opened between 10am and 6pm from Tuesday to Saturday. Notable designers who have found their inspiration at the indoor market include Tom Dixon, Jasper Conran, Kelly Hoppen and Nine Campbell. Aside from jewellery, other popular items to be bought here include paintings, vintage clothes, silver, carte r4 and Art Deco items. People from all over the globe continue to flock to Alfies to revel in its chic bohemian culture and search for something that is truly authentic. The market includes experienced specialists who trade an extraordinary number of collectable gems that cannot be found anywhere else. It is London’s most famous centre of vintage and antique fashion and has become the home of some of the best dealers in modern times. The market was opened in 1976 by Bennie Gray at the department store of Jordan’s. Since then, Alfies has been extensively rebuilt and benefited from a four-storey extension in the late 1980s. More recently, the Nina’s Hair Parlour, which has been recognised as the first Vintage Hair and Makeup salon in Britain, was opened here in June 2008 after relocating from is much smaller space in Waterloo.
